Be healthy - or at least try!

Hello High Heelers

I must confess that this week I have been a downright glutton. I can’t even begin to tell you of the bad things that have passed the lips and stuck to the hips this week. While chewing on my second piece of birthday cake for the very gorgeous Thuli Segalo’s birthday on Wednesday, Natalie Maroun snuck behind me and boomed “what are you doing my dear?” She can be very sneaky, that Natalie. My heart hit my throat with a guilty thud. As it was indeed a good question. Why the need to eat cakes and chocolates when I’m stressed? I always do it.

And that’s why my trousers didn’t fit this morning (it took me an extra 15 minutes to iron a fresh pair of pants from the back of my cupboard in the ‘fat section’). At first I thought that the first pair must have shrunk, but then when I tried out a belt and had to move it up a notch I realised the real truth – I am expanding, and not in a good way (it is not the trousers, it is me – Sigh!) So from today, I am going to behave. Really. Truly. Properly. Watch me do it!

Funnily enough, this morning I received an email from the gym stating that I have to go 4 times this month or I will lose my contract – so you see, the universe is conspiring to make me lean and healthily curvy again. Will any of you join me in this quest? Please don’t think that I’m suggesting that you all become diet and gym freaks. I wish I could be disciplined like Natalie Maroun – the woman gyms daily, and eats a stringent diet of healthy foods (which is why she looks like a curvy goddess). I’m simply suggesting that we just eat a bit better and get enough exercise.

Being healthy isn’t just for the figure though. Since I regressed back into chocoholism my skin has gone spotty, I feel tired all the time and I’ve been getting nasty sinus headaches. Eating well and looking after yourself allows you to be a greater person – inside and out. It also allows you to stand more steadily on your hot high heels (which most of you do already, I know). The exercise gets the endorphins going thereby making you happy, busts your stress levels and increases your energy – nothing wrong with that. So now every time I feel that I need chocolate, I am going to go to gym instead. I’ll start in manageable short sessions and move my way up. Wish me luck as I’m going to be going to gym a lot this week!
Can I encourage you to all start adding ‘healthy’ habits into your lives this week?

It is quite simple to find little ways to get active – my colleague Karin climbs all 3 flights of stairs instead of taking the lift in the morning (go Karin!), Amanda goes to yoga, Natalie eats little snacks of apples and nuts to keep her energy up and her sugar cravings down (amongst other things), Deborah keeps busy and on her feet most of the day, Alison runs, Jenny cycles, the list goes on... Check out the healthy ladies (and gents) around you and steal their tips. Or get brave enough to join them in a brisk walk at lunch or a gym session after work.

Remember that the best expansion is the type that happens in your mind, not in your thighs. Stretch your dreams, grow your brains and keep healthy High Heelers.

Cheers,
Jo
