Hello High Heelers
I’m writing to you on a late Friday evening from work. Happily tap-tap-tapping away on the keyboard. There are many girls left in the office (granted, my office has a healthy number of female staff – we out-number the guys )but I can’t help but remember that us ladies have worked so hard to reach a point where we have become integral members of the corporate world. It’s great to see where we are now!
Let’s get something straight upfront, I am not a feminist. I wear make-up, I shave my armpits and you’ll never see me burn a bra – why would I? – Bras are my best friends, they make my boobs look fantastic (I could dedicate a whole book of poetry to the Wonder Bra). But post-women’s day, I think it’s necessary to remember those that came before us and worked hard as a gender to get us to where we are today. They allowed us to be educated, to vote and to dream. Now it’s up to us to take their dreams and live them into the future.
However, in embracing our space in the ‘man’s world’, I find that there are so few ladies who have found the balance between being unapologetically feminine while fitting into this world that is still so masculine. What’s awesome is that since starting my new job, I have come across a woman who is everything our sisters fought for, my new boss – Natalie Maroun (100% woman).
Now, I’ve challenged myself to keep a keen eye on my boss to get some tips to share with all of you – she’s a gorgeous, ridiculously intelligent, feminine woman who is holding her own in the business world. It’s tough to find any takers who will call her anything but ‘fabulous’. And fair enough, she can completely freak me out with her tough attitude and high expectations (in fact, I almost ran away in week one) but she’s always focussed, constantly encouraging and has this amazing ability to get anything done – and I mean anything (I swear this woman could run the comrades in a pair of red stilettos without even getting a blister).
So, journey with me brave ladies, as I begin to stalk my boss (and some of the other great gals in my office) and share her secrets with you. Please note that I will follow some rules along the way, as I know that stalking is illegal and could get me fired! But I’m intrigued (and you will be too) by Natalie, mainly because:
1. She wears the hottest shoes ever made (Carrie and the girls would envy them!)
2. Her hair is down to her ass – and it’s natural
3. Her nails always look perfect, ALWAYS
4. She has 2 assistants and they’re constantly busy
5. She can speak on the phone, type an email, meet with me and listen to a conversation outside her door at the same time (spiders have 8 eyes and Natalie seems to have 8 ears!)
6. She runs a highly successful consulting business while juggling many other huge responsibilities in our business
Right. So now you know the mission. Heel up and get ready to voyage along my little voyeurs. Till next time – stay true to your tippy-toes and walk tall!
