One for the boys!
Hello High Heelers
So, you men have been complaining that your size 12 feet are hurting in the stunning size 6 high heels I keep squeezing them into. Well, let me start by saying that I feel for you all, I really do. But, sigh, now you know how we women feel. Looking hot hurts and takes work! So no, we will not be sharing sweaty-jocks and sneaker stories for you. That’s unfortunately not what walking tall is all about. But since we love you dearly, here’s one for the blokes…
And it all begins with, (yip, you guessed it) WOMEN! The power of attractive women is so very entertaining sometimes! Recently I walked past Natalie Maroun’s office (Natalie is my tough, hard-working and incredibly sexy boss) on the way back to my desk. She has this elegant round, glass table in the corner which is surrounded by 3 glass walls – so you can see right inside from the outside.
And there stood Natalie and Gavin (one of our other Managing Executives) intricately wrapping a beautiful big painting. Let me introduce you to Gavin. Gavin Olivier is a sports fanatic, ‘rugby and cricket watching’ type, executive member of our company, who is very proficient in multi-taking and occasionally his emotional side, but is 100% beer-drinking man. Always. He doesn’t do manicures, he doesn’t go shoe shopping, he doesn’t drink pink drinks, and he doesn’t wrap presents with feathers and bows (or so we thought!)
I stood in amazement at this scene and started doing sun salutations to the woman who had managed to achieve the impossible – to feminise one of our alpha men. Let me give you more detail here – he wasn’t pulling funny faces and grimacing while wrapping, he was attentively following the finger-nail pointing and red-lipped instructions and he actually had a slight grin on his face, like he was enjoying it!
When Nats saw me misbehaving out of the side of her eyelashes, she didn’t give me a look of death. Nope. She kicked off the Louboutins hopped onto the glass desk and did a great dance of delight for all who were lucky enough to catch the sight. And Gavin – well, he turned a shade of pink (sorry Gavin) and burst into fits of laughter. You see, though there are always things you hate doing, that’s just life, there’s always a way to make it better. You need to find the fun.
Did Gavin enjoy the idea of wrapping? HELL NO! But he needed to chat to Natalie urgently (I suspect – this is the only reason I can think of that brought him into her wrapping game). And Natalie, being herself, found a way to find it hugely fun. The two of them spent a good 20 minutes wrapping and tying and knotting and placing decorations on the gift. And I believe that Gavin left her office with more than just the information he needed, he left with a deep belly laugh and a sense of fun and I bet you it made his whole day a lot better.
High Heelers, may I encourage you all to find the fun this week? When you’re doing something that feels laborious and awful, that one thing that you just don’t like, put a crazy spin on it and laugh out loud. That way you can bring passion and energy through everything you do.
May your week be filled with smiles and laughter and may you all walk tall this week.
Cheers,
Jo
