A new year has begun and exciting opportunities lie ahead of us. 2010 was definitely a year of excitement and new experiences. We’re going to have to work hard to make 2011 even better. But somehow, I think we can do it.
Well, my year began with a BANG. This weekend I drove straight into a pothole and my tire exploded. I, of course, kept driving in the hope that I could reach a garage to get my tire changed (since I have no idea how to do it myself – tsk tsk!). But things didn’t quite turn out that way. I ended up with a face full of mascara, a ruined rim, a cyclist banging on my window and phoning my dad for help. How 5 years old! Miraculously, I still made it to my nail appointment and have pretty nails as I type – yay!
Weirdly enough, last weekend I managed to lock myself in my apartment and had to call my dad (yes, AGAIN) to bring my spare keys and get me out. I felt very much like Rapunzel in the fairytale. Only without the handsome prince (though my dad isn’t bad looking for his age – uh-hum!). I’ve been getting myself rescued a lot lately. So my new aim is to empower myself enough to not have to be rescued in future. I am going to learn how to change a tire and how to use tools. Watch this space!
On the subject of empowering myself, the stalking of my boss has been rather challenging lately, with her being away. She only got back to work today. I would have loved to have followed her on holiday, but I think that might have been just a touch over the line (ok, so I always cross the line, but that would have been a giant leap over it!)
So, this week’s High Heelers is all about me. Spotlight on me. Yay! I thought it would be apt to share some new year’s resolutions (with a twist) with you all. So here goes:
• Spoil yourself on a dinner out. Just you and yourself. Yes! It’s great to spend quiet time on your own, to catch up with your thoughts and make sense of your dreams.
• Phone a friend who you haven’t spoken to in two years. You know, the one you lost touch with and you don’t know why? Do it and enjoy chatting about past experiences, dreams and loves.
• Spend an afternoon going through old photographs. Sometimes a little trip into the past helps you put your future into perspective.
• Paint one of your walls in your house a bright, fresh colour. Be daring!
• Cook a candlelight dinner for your partner and set the table in style. We’re always so busy that we often forget to pause and enjoy the great things we have.
• Buy something for yourself to bring in the new year. If you’ve been eyeing a piece of jewellery, shoes or decadent chocolate – just do it! Sometimes you need to reward yourself too.
• And the last one is dedicated to Natalie: get hold of hot, red lipstick. You may feel a little silly the first time you wear it, but you’ll love it on days when you feel a little blue.
Think of things to do to bring in the New Year for you. A resolution should be realistic. I’m not going to promise myself I’ll lose 10kgs by February, that’s just not being fair! Instead I am going to do my best to get involved in a good community project and I aim to live a little healthier this year. On the fun side: I’m going to be buying a new pair of ridiculously high heels every 2nd month (I’ve calculated it into my budget). Eek!
Let’s go into 2011 standing tall. May it be everything you dream of and may it help you dream higher. I’d love to hear what you’re all desiring this year – do share!
Happy 2011 High Heelers!
Cheers,
Jo

Hi Jo
Reading this entry made me realise how much I missed my weekly 'shot' of HighHeelers. Love the post and the resolutions with a twist. We can all do more to spoil ourselves a little more. Personally, my 2011 resolution is to dream as much as ever while taking more action to position myself to turn some of those dreams into reality.
