Ready for Anything
Hello High Heelers
Goodness! My office has been filled with weird happenings lately. One of my colleagues was walking across the road and got hit by a car (well kind of by two, actually). On that very same day another one of the team was in a horrible accident and rolled her car while avoiding a vehicle that cut her off. Then our preggy fairy went into labour and her water broke, in the office bathroom. They are all ok now and the baby is gorgeous!
They say life is what happens while you’re making other plans. But I think all the major things in life happen when you’re just living out your normal activities. Whenever major life-changing events happen they seem to do so when you’re busy with the most mundane tasks. For instance, when I had my first publisher’s offer and contract sent to me for my novel, it was the end of the evening after a seriously typical day. No drum roll, no opening of clouds and sunbeams shining through, no angles voices singing and no fireworks display. When my closest and oldest friend passed away tragically I was at a lunch party with a group of friends – nothing unusual. There was no ‘ah huh!’ moment and there was certainly no warning about the looming news.
The weird thing about life is that it just keeps playing out. There is no pause button and there is certainly no rewind option for when you want to go through the great parts again, or change the parts you wished you’d done differently. What matters is how you react in the moment, rather than about how you wish you’d acted or how you expect yourself to behave.
So, this week, may I encourage you to all check your heart and your mind. Keep yourself in the position to be able to handle whatever comes your way. If you’re a High Heeler, set on climbing, I can promise you that you will face your fair share of setbacks along the way. There will be jealously, competition, challenges that stretch your abilities, late nights, long weekends and possibly dealing with the stress of not spending as much time with your family as you’d like to.
These things will happen. And it’s very unlikely that you will have any warning before they do. So step up in your hottest, highest heels. Make sure that they have strong soles, resilient material, a tough grip and the ability to be worn through difficult times. A great pair of heels becomes more comfortable and more beautiful as you wear them, bend them and mould them to your unique shape. Your future is just the same.
If you have the material right (your mind and your heart) you can safely allow life to wear you into someone who is resilient, strong and beautiful in every way. Guard your heart, strengthen your mind and bend your soul into the shape of your dreams.
Have a great week High Heelers!
Cheers,
Jo
