Hello High Heelers
First up today, let me explain that everyone I work with is a little quirky. They’re all attractive, effective, intelligent, and forgive me for saying this – mentally touched. They really are. It’s like a prerequisite for hiring people in our company. You have to tick every possible box, including the one that says ‘huge sense of humour and lots of personality’. We’re a bunch of wonderfully bright, creative, crazy people who have a reputation of being some of the best in the industry – so there you go.
I’m starting to get to my point so stay with me (now that I’ve insulted all of my over-learned colleagues). I heard the funniest story about our CEO, Ricky Robinson. Just to give you context here – Ricky is possibly the most level-headed person I have ever met. He’s a philosopher, a deep thinker, a seeker of fairness and justice, and most of all – calm. That is, until Natalie Maroun gets hold of him.
On one particular long drive out to Sun City (which is a two hour drive out of Johannesburg – which I’m sure Natalie does in an hour!) Natalie and Ricky began to argue passionately about a work issue. Neither of them will disclose the nature of the work challenge, but it was clearly an area they have very different perspectives on. The argument reached its end when Natalie stopped in the middle of nowhere and demanded Ricky get out of her car.
Yip – she left her CEO on the side of the road in rural South Africa with nothing. After travelling a little further down the road some level of sanity returned and she decided it best to turn around and rescue him. By this time, Ricky was having none of her temper. He refused to get back into the car. So Natalie drove next to him as he walked down the road angrily, for some time, begging him to get back in the car.
Since Ricky is still alive today and didn’t get lost and dehydrated in our deep farm lands, I can only assume that he eventually obliged and got back into Natalie’s little sports car. I image the rest of the trip lost its heat and was a lot closer to the arctic than the previous passionate kilometres.
And now, let me actually get to the point. Passion makes you a little crazy. It can incite your temper and have you make terrible decisions (though I dare say Natalie won’t agree that leaving an indignant man on the side of the road, is a bad decision). Passion drives us wild. But passion also drives us. It’s the thing that gets you up in the morning and allows you to work like an insane possessed person – and love it. Without passion, you’re basically empty.
So, stay with me here, as I encourage you to ignite your passion positively in every area of your life. Be a little crazy. Love what you do. Embrace your passions and enjoy the satisfaction of realising your dreams.
Have a crazy passionate week High Heelers.
Cheers,
Jo
